Oral surgery

From tooth extractions to implant procedures, our experienced team ensures a safe and painless treatment. Preserving your teeth always comes first; we only remove a tooth when there is no alternative.

Dental implant

Implants made of titanium or ceramic grow firmly into the jaw and replace lost teeth, following the example of nature.

Implants are artificial tooth roots that grow firmly into the jawbone. Today, almost every situation of tooth loss can be solved with implants – from a single tooth to an edentulous jaw. Unlike a bridge, no neighbouring teeth need to be ground down, and the implant helps prevent bone loss.

We plan the position with computer-aided methods based on X-rays; microsurgical incisions help to prevent swelling. The implant fuses with the bone in about 3–6 months, after which we place the crown, bridge or denture. You can choose between titanium and metal-free zirconia ceramic.

Tooth extraction

If a tooth can no longer be saved, we remove it gently and preserve as much bone as possible.

We only remove a tooth when there is no alternative and you have been fully advised – for example with severely damaged, displaced or supernumerary teeth, complicated fractures or extremely curved roots. Our team includes oral surgeons who perform the procedure in our practice in Baar.

The procedure is usually carried out under local anaesthesia; in some cases, for example when several teeth are removed, under twilight sedation or general anaesthesia. We preserve as much bone as possible for later restoration. The stitches are removed after about 10 days; once the wound has healed, the gap should be closed with a restoration.

Wisdom tooth extraction

Our team specialises in the careful, gentle removal of wisdom teeth – under local or general anaesthesia.

Wisdom teeth often do not find enough space in the jaw. This can lead to inflammation, decay on the neighbouring tooth, shifting teeth or cysts. The ideal time for removal is between the ages of 14 and 20: before that, the teeth are usually not yet properly formed; afterwards, the roots are often close to the lower jaw nerve.

Depending on the difficulty, the procedure takes 20–60 minutes. For general anaesthesia, we work with an experienced team of anaesthesiologists. We mainly use self-dissolving sutures, so a single check-up within three days is usually enough. If you prefer, we remove the teeth one side at a time, a few weeks apart.

Root tip resection

If a root canal treatment does not help, we surgically remove the inflamed root tip and so preserve the tooth.

A root tip resection is considered when a root canal treatment has not cleared the inflammation, or when there is a cyst or granuloma at the root tip. It is often the best alternative to extraction. For the diagnosis, we examine the tooth and tissue clinically, with X-rays and, if needed, with 3D imaging (DVT).

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia and usually takes 15–30 minutes. We expose and remove the root tip and seal the root canals against bacteria. The microsurgical method uses a surgical microscope and special instruments, protects the surrounding tissue and makes it more likely that you keep your own tooth.
