Children's teeth

With empathetic care and a playful approach, we create a positive atmosphere even for our youngest patients. This lays the foundation for lifelong dental health in childhood.

First visit

We meet children with patience, empathy, calmness and humour – the basis for lifelong dental awareness.

Pediatric dentistry is crucial for your children's long-term dental health. Neglected visits to the dentist can lead to undetected dental problems, dental anxiety, susceptibility to infections and sleep disorders. We place special emphasis on psychological care so that your child avoids negative experiences.

During the visit, we consider the following aspects. We recommend regular check-ups, usually at least once a year.

  • General health, allergies and systemic diseases
  • Dental and oral hygiene, with recommendations for daily care
  • Baby teeth checked for decay and gum inflammation
  • Jaw development and possible tooth misalignments
  • Nutritional advice for tooth-friendly eating habits

Fissure sealing

A low-viscosity plastic seals the indentations of the chewing surfaces and helps prevent tooth decay.

Fissures are the natural indentations on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. We seal them with a low-viscosity plastic so that bacteria cannot penetrate and decay cannot develop. This usually applies to the permanent molars of children and adolescents, which are particularly susceptible to tooth decay.

According to studies, sealing reduces susceptibility to caries by up to 70 percent. Good oral hygiene remains essential; at regular check-ups we examine the seal and renew it if necessary.

Pediatric prophylaxis

We recommend check-ups at least once a year and cleanings from the first permanent tooth onwards.

Baby teeth are more susceptible to decay because of their thin, mineral-poor enamel, and carious baby teeth can infect the permanent teeth. Pediatric prophylaxis includes a preventive check-up and professional cleaning, and makes young patients aware of careful oral hygiene.

After the examination, we show the correct brushing technique, remove soft and hard plaque and polish the teeth so that bacteria are less able to settle. With fixed braces, professional cleaning is recommended every 3 months.

Chalk teeth

Porous, discoloured and pain-sensitive teeth in children may indicate chalk teeth (MIH).

Chalk teeth (molar incisor hypomineralisation, MIH) are a tooth enamel defect. The teeth react sensitively to heat and cold, often making chewing and brushing much more difficult. The first symptoms can already appear in the molars of the primary dentition.

In younger children the baby teeth can be affected, in older children the permanent teeth – usually one to four back molars. Incisors can, but do not have to, be involved.
