Treatments Dental hygiene

Professional teeth cleaning

A clean tooth does not get sick. Careful oral hygiene and regular check-ups prevent tooth and gum disease – we recommend a prophylaxis appointment every six months.

What we do

Our experienced dental hygienists remove plaque, tartar and other deposits and give you individual advice on effective oral hygiene. This keeps your teeth healthy, clean and free of decay – with a result that goes beyond appearance.

We work in a minimally invasive, gentle way following Guided Biofilm Therapy. Soft bacterial deposits and stains are removed thoroughly with Airflow technology, and tartar gently with Piezon No Pain technology.

Prophylaxis or teeth cleaning?

Professional teeth cleaning focuses on removing deposits. A prophylaxis session goes further: it includes an examination of the teeth, gums and tongue and takes other factors into account, such as personal risks and eating habits. Your general health can also be assessed, and we show you how to clean properly at home.

Protection against decay

Tooth decay is a bacterial infection and one of the most common causes of tooth loss. It dissolves enamel, damages the tooth and causes pain. If not treated promptly, a tooth can die or need to be ground down – affecting both health and appearance.

  • Brush your teeth regularly.
  • Come for dental hygiene twice a year.
  • Use dental floss and an anti-decay mouthwash regularly.
  • Do not eat too many sweet or starchy foods.

Protection against gum inflammation

Regular, thorough brushing removes plaque, where the germs that cause inflammation thrive. In addition, the teeth and the spaces between them need regular professional cleaning so that tartar is removed completely.

Nervous about dental hygiene?

For anxious patients we provide a safe, supportive environment. Thanks to modern methods, our treatment is gentle and causes little discomfort. We take plenty of time for your questions: at the first appointment you get to know Dr. Nina van Sprundel and her team, and together we discuss your wishes and goals. Through clear information and transparency, we aim to earn your trust.

Before and during pregnancy

Your oral health plays an important role in the course of pregnancy. We recommend a visit before a planned pregnancy: major treatments such as root canal treatment, gum treatment or extractions are best done beforehand – this spares you physically and mentally.

In the first trimester we avoid serious procedures so as not to put the child at risk. In the last trimester the priority is avoiding stress to reduce the risk of premature birth, so no major treatment then either. In the second trimester treatment is less problematic and advisable for acute pain or inflammation. Please do not simply put up with toothache during pregnancy – pain means stress.

Hormonal changes greatly increase the risk of decay and gum inflammation. Professional cleaning before pregnancy, regular cleanings during it and proper care at home are therefore especially important.
