When are veneers the right solution?
Healthy teeth and gums are a prerequisite. For more pronounced misalignments, correcting them first with aligners can be advisable so that less tooth structure needs to be removed. For this we work closely with our specialist in orthodontics, Dr. Sara Saffari.
Veneers are often possible for worn teeth, erosion or teeth grinding too – a research focus of Dr. Nina van Sprundel. With careful planning, suitable ceramic, a functional analysis of the bite and a night guard, even worn or acid-damaged teeth can be restored durably, combined with a bite raise where necessary.
- Discolouration that bleaching cannot sufficiently lighten
- Gaps between the front teeth
- Worn, short or irregularly shaped teeth
- Minor misalignments and rotated teeth
- Chips and enamel defects
- The wish for a completely harmonious smile
Ceramic, Lumineers or composite?
Classic all-ceramic veneers suit most situations. Ceramic reproduces the play of light of natural teeth vividly, does not discolour and causes no allergies. Usually only the enamel is reduced by 0.3–0.5 mm – far less than for a crown, for which the tooth is ground all the way round.
Lumineers (no-prep veneers) are ceramic shells around 0.3 mm thin, usually bonded without grinding and without anaesthesia. They only suit selected cases: very dark teeth may show through, and with heavy grinding or clenching the shells can chip off.
For small corrections, such as a single gap, composite can be a gentle, quick solution in one session. It discolours over time, however, and usually needs renewing after a few years; for a long-lasting redesign we recommend ceramic. Where wear is more extensive, a crown is more stable because it covers the whole tooth.

How treatment works
At the first consultation we discuss your wishes and prepare all records: examination of teeth, gums, bite and jaw joints, photos, a digital 3D scan and your personal cost estimate. With Digital Smile Design we plan your new smile, which you can see before treatment begins. The teeth must be healthy and free of inflammation such as periodontitis; where needed, a cleaning, new fillings or whitening come first.
Treatment follows in four appointments, completed within 7–14 days depending on the number of veneers. At the follow-ups afterwards we check your bite and fine-tune it if needed.
- Appointment 1, practice – preparation and scan: the tooth surfaces are prepared minimally and gently and captured digitally.
- Appointment 2, dental laboratory – temporaries: you receive laboratory-made temporaries and can live with your new smile straight away.
- Appointment 3, dental laboratory – try-in: the final ceramic veneers are checked for bite and aesthetics until everything is right.
- Appointment 4, practice – placement: usually the following day, Dr. van Sprundel bonds the veneers permanently; bonding takes around 20 minutes per tooth.
Costs
A ceramic veneer at our practice costs from CHF 2'000; Lumineers cost about the same. The price includes planning with Digital Smile Design, the laboratory-made temporaries, the handcrafting, treatment by Dr. van Sprundel personally and the follow-up appointments. You receive your binding, transparent cost estimate at the first consultation.

Frequently asked questions
Does the treatment hurt?
Usually not. In most cases only the enamel is treated minimally and the sensitive dentine is left untouched. If more is needed in an individual case, we use local anaesthesia. Patients with dental anxiety also generally find the treatment very comfortable.
Do veneers look natural?
Yes. Shape, colour and translucency are matched individually to your teeth and face. The aim is a smile that looks beautiful and natural at the same time – not an off-the-shelf «Hollywood smile».
How do I care for my veneers?
Like natural teeth: thorough brushing, floss or interdental brushes and regular professional cleaning. You should avoid biting on very hard objects.
I don't live in Switzerland. Is treatment still possible?
Yes. Many patients travel to us from other cantons or from abroad; the practice is right at Baar station, easy to reach from Zurich, Zug, Lucerne and Zurich Airport. The first consultation with a binding cost estimate takes place in one appointment, and we schedule the four treatment appointments around your travel dates. A few weeks later you return, whenever suits you, for a short follow-up.
