Treatments Children's teeth

Chalk teeth

If children or teenagers have porous, discoloured and painfully sensitive teeth, the cause may be chalky teeth – known medically as molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH).

What are chalky teeth?

Chalky teeth are a defect of the tooth enamel. The teeth react sensitively to heat and cold, and chewing and brushing are often much more difficult.

Which teeth are affected

The first signs can already appear on the back teeth of the milk dentition. In younger children the milk teeth are affected, in older children the permanent teeth. Usually one to four back molars are involved; the incisors may or may not be affected as well.
